If your refrigerator or freezer stops cooling, keep the doors closed as much as possible. A closed refrigerator generally keeps food cold for about four hours, and a full freezer for much longer. Move sensitive items such as dairy, meat and medications to a cooler with ice if the repair will take time, and discard perishable food that has stayed above 40°F for more than two hours.
