The Problem: One Burner Stopped Working
A customer in Orlando called about their JennAir cooktop. One of the burners had stopped working while the others worked normally. A single dead burner usually points to a fault in that burner's own circuit rather than the power supply to the whole cooktop.
Diagnosis
Our technician opened the cooktop to inspect and test the components serving that burner. The fault was a broken connection in the burner's circuit, and the failed part was JennAir part number WP71002433. Testing confirmed that replacing it would restore the burner.
The Repair
The technician replaced part WP71002433, reassembled the cooktop and tested every burner across its heat range. The cooktop worked perfectly again.
Common Causes of a Dead Cooktop Burner
- A failed surface element or radiant element (electric).
- A failed infinite switch or control.
- A burnt terminal or broken wire.
- On gas cooktops: a clogged burner port, a failed igniter or a spark module problem.
Before calling, check whether the other burners work and whether the breaker has tripped. Avoid using a cooktop with a cracked glass top.
