The Problem: Refrigerator Shut Down With Smoke
A business in Orlando called Fuse because their TRUE commercial refrigerator had shut down and a lot of smoke was coming from the unit. Smoke from any refrigerator is an electrical emergency: the unit should be unplugged or switched off at the breaker immediately.
Diagnosis: Burned Internal Wiring
Our technician inspected the refrigerator and found that the internal wiring had burned. Heat from a failing connection can spread along a harness, melting insulation and eventually cutting power to the compressor, fans and controls.
The Repair: Rewiring the Unit
The technician rewired the affected circuits with correctly rated wire and connectors, checked the components the wiring served and tested the refrigerator through a full cooling cycle. The unit returned to normal operation.
Preventing Electrical Failures in Commercial Refrigeration
- Keep condenser coils clean so components do not overheat.
- Make sure the refrigerator is on a dedicated, correctly sized circuit, not an extension cord.
- Have loose, discolored or warm plugs and outlets inspected.
- Schedule preventive maintenance so connections are checked and tightened.
