The Project: Switching to a Ductless Mini-Split
A homeowner wanted to replace their existing system and chose a ductless mini-split for the room it served. Our technicians recommended a Mitsubishi system, known for quiet operation, reliable inverter compressors, a washable air filter and an optional anti-allergen enzyme filter that helps with indoor air quality.
Equipment Installed
- Indoor unit: Mitsubishi MSZ-JP09WA-U1, 9,000 BTU ductless wall-mounted air handler.
- Outdoor unit: Mitsubishi MUZ-JP09WA-U1, 9,000 BTU, 17 SEER ductless heat pump condenser (115V).
- Controls: Mitsubishi PAC-USWHS002-WF-2 Kumo Cloud Wi-Fi interface for smartphone control.
The installation was completed by EPA-certified technicians.
Why a Ductless Heat Pump Works Well in Florida
A 9,000 BTU mini-split is well suited to a bedroom, office, sunroom or converted garage. Because it has no ductwork, it avoids the duct losses that affect many Florida attic systems. The inverter compressor adjusts its speed to the load, which keeps temperatures steady and removes humidity efficiently. As a heat pump it also provides heat on Orlando's cooler winter mornings. Wi-Fi control through Kumo Cloud lets the homeowner adjust the system and set schedules from a phone.
What a Mini-Split Installation Includes
- Sizing the system for the room and choosing the indoor unit location.
- Mounting the indoor unit and the outdoor condenser on a pad or bracket.
- Running the refrigerant line set, condensate drain and communication wiring through a small wall opening.
- Installing a dedicated electrical circuit and disconnect.
- Evacuating the lines, releasing the refrigerant charge and testing heating and cooling modes.
- Setting up the controller and Wi-Fi app.
